Oh. My. Goodness. This guy is funny. I was laughing out loud. Seriously.

It may have helped that I listened to the book (audiobook) and David Sedaris was reading so all of the nuances were really there. Who knows, but I need to listen to or read more of his stuff for sure.

After seeing David live last week, I decided to go back and read some of his earlier works so that I've got them all covered. I listened to this one via audiobook and it was read by him, which I think is the best way to enjoy his work. His voice is so distinct and his stories are hilarious, as always.

Yet another amusing audiobook from Sedaris that had me enduring my time on a the treadmill. His interactions with cabdrivers, airline passengers, Japaneze teachers, and his French neighbors made me laugh, albeit while shaking my head at his eccentric ways. I'll never look at a fly caught in a spiderweb the same way again after hearing about his office window in Normandy.

Either I just wasn't in the mood or Sedaris has lost his touch. I didn't find these stories as funny, touching, or occasionally profound as I usually do. Every story feels like a retread of a better one from his past books. They're still entertaining and amusing, but not on the same level.

Loved it, loved it, loved it. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. I am never disappointed with anything by David Sedaris. I was literally crying with laughter through many portions of this book. I am a huge fan of his dark humor and his ability to make me laugh with his sometimes socially unnacceptable humor. Hilarious.

Some of the essays are funnier than others. Doesn't match his previous books. Sedaris is at his best when commenting on every day life; the high-concept essays left me cold.
