“To change somebody’s behavior, change the level of respect they receive by giving them a fine reputation to live up to. Act as though the trait you are trying to influence is already one of the person’s outstanding characteristics.”
3.5/5 ⭐️
I’ve been struggling to get through this and it’s taken 3 weeks to finish. I found some of the principles (although simplistic) an important reminder of the basics of good communication and will refer back to the useful tips and quotes I have highlighted whenever I need to use them in the future as this book is dense with ideas and interesting anecdotes.
I do think this lacks the nuance of when it is good to use the principles and it does seemed far more aimed at sales/ corporate types than anyone else. I also appreciate that this book was probably very revolutionary at the time it was written and although it is impressive that most of it still rains true today, it didn’t have the wow factor as this information is much more readily accessible and promoted online these days. I felt the last section became very repetitive too as certain ideas were relabelled but contained the same content.
Overall this was a really interesting read, I understand why it impacted the culture so much in previous generations and there’s plenty I’ll take away from it but maybe not quite as life changing as it’s supposed to be for me personally.

This book is basically a “how to” on emotional intelligence.

Another essential read for me. Always get something new out of it after every read.

imho the title is misleading, it's not about winning friends, it's a rather modern approach of finding inner peace by "positive" manipulation
