This short story was OK, just not my cup of tea.

I got this short story for free via Instafreebie when I signed up to Debbie Cassidy's newsletter.

What we learn as we read this story is that the characters are teens - they're cadets at a school that trains those born with the "Fearless" mark to become hunters and protectors of mankind. The story is told in the first person from our main character, Kenna Carter's point of view, who has a big secret of her own.

I've got to say, this story is why I steer clear of the YA genre; I was fighting my prejudice of the genre and frustration with the characters and plot throughout. I think I actually tutted out loud when our heroine jumped to a blatantly incorrect conclusion fairly early on. *sigh*

Right from the first page, this story feels as though we've been thrown into an existing plot line in an unfamiliar new fantasy world; a flash fiction piece for existing fans rather than a taster to entice you to the series. Debbie Cassidy is a new-to-me- author and although I found this, OK, a quick read it wasn't complex enough to intrigue me enough to pursue the series.

Loved it

I really enjoyed this story and am really excited for the next one! I just finished the latest Carmella story and had to check out what else you had so here I am!

3.5 stars. After a slow first half, the second half of this book picked up nicely. I definitely want to keep reading this series.

Kenna thinks she is one of the Fearless, and that her life is doing pretty good. That is until she gets let down by her best friend, and something horrible happens to her.

Now, she is going to be sent off to die by the man who was supposed to love her. She has a new destiny waiting for her, and she doesn't understand it at all. But she will do whatever
she can to protect the innocents, no matter what they are.

This book was really good. I enjoyed the plot line, and the heroine's courage.
The only thing I didn't like about it was the bad taste in men the heroine had. That was a little bit heartbreaking, but other than that I really enjoyed this one a whole lot, and I look forward to more!

The beginning half of this book was excellent. The world created was awesome and I was excited for the rest of the book. The second half is an abysmal failure and I’m sad because I won’t be reading anymore of these books.
