If you’re into mythology, the references throughout this might give you a kick. I finished it in a day - less because it was unputdownable but more because I wanted to be finished with it quickly. The dark academia vibes were there, but I was left wanting more. Daddy issues are hard to sustain for 335 pages.

I've seen some reviews to the contrary, but I personally prefer The Maidens to The Silent Patient. I thought The Maidens had improved storytelling and plot development that was a little bit more consistent throughout the book, rather than just at the very end. This was a great read and quite a wild ride. very fun tie-ins with The Silent Patient as well. I like the literary universe that Michaelides is creating and I hope he continues to tie in his other works with these two.

Even though I certainly suspected who the murderer actually was throughout, I talked myself out of it each time the thought came up. I think it was a good choice in the end.

Overall, I was pleased with the overall direction this book took. It was just the right amount of unpredictable. And as I always do, I love whenever there is an aspect of Dark Academia.

This slogged on for the first 140 pages and I almost DNF'd a bunch of times. This was, for the most part, so boring that I wanted to cry. It hit its stride *sort of* toward the middle and end, but God, these characters were flat, the perpetrator of the murders was too predictable for me (though, to the book's credit, the reasoning behind it was not). One thing I did really like was the incorporation of literature and Greek Mythology in the narrative, but Overall, this really felt like a waste of time.
