I don’t have the exact bandwidth to say the exact reasons why it’s not for me. But I thought the overall premise was unique. The themes were interesting. I did not like the psychological warfare aspect done to kids. Also the multiple conversations and moments where it was like but what is all this really for? Or does it in the grand scheme even matter? I felt that because no what they were doing made no sense. And the author’s portrayal that no war makes no sense but humans do it because they have this innate want to survive at all costs. Meh. I was with Ender for every time when he was over the entire process. I could have done with less specifics in the battle games. I think I would’ve preferred more relationship building than battle specific scenes. Peter and Valentine, I would have to read the book again maybe twice to understand the depth of their intelligence/their goals and how that related to their evolving personalities but I got the overall premise.

I loved it. It's simple but smart and deep and good. One of those books that make me want to work harder and be a better person.
