I was gripped despite knowing that these memoirs would eventually have a 'happy ending'. Angelou writes beautifully, honestly and thoughtfully about the circumstances and choices of her youth.

Its so amazing how Maya Angelou is able to talk her own pretty dark story and weave it into the most beautiful poetry and prose.
