The Gift

Cecelia Ahern

3.49 AVERAGE

Ahern must have decided to take a dive into magical realism for longer than expected (see my review of A Place Called Here). This one didn't work for me as much as I would have liked it to. It very much resembled It's A Wonderful Life to me (old Christmas movie for anyone who doesn't know). Meh.

a solid 3. the end made it all worthwhile!

Once again Cecilia Ahern has done it. This is an amazingly heart warming story of friendships, relationships, romance, love, time, family and so much more. There is a lesson in it to spend more time thinking about today and not the what ifs. Love today and live today, not yesterday or years ago or tomorrow, live today.

Such an inspiring book, I couldn't put it down.

This was a lovely written story about appreciating the time we have with people and not taking anyone or anything for granted.

god is  beggar who guves lou pills that clone him. lou is a bad man who cheats on his wife time and time again. realises his family is more important than work because it’s christmas (???) so he gets in the car and speeds home, dies in a fatal car accident. clones himself before death. clone of himself has sex with his wife and impregnates her before he dies as well. need i say more.

I’ve never read a book by Cecelia before! Very intelligent, a great story telller. The whole time you’re trying to figure out what is going on with this illusive Gabe character, while simultaneously feeling sorry for and being angry at the main character, Lou.

I would’ve rated this higher if there had been more of a full circle moment, or wrap up (I will not spoil anything but I am still left with some questions) hence the 3/5 (it’s really more like 3.5) but alas, there are no half ratings!

I found this very readable and enjoyable. I would read something by her again!

Not her best

I struggled with this book. It was too existential with too many questions and characters that were hard to relate to.
