I loved the general message of the book and it was a nice read, but the narrative had me confused at times.

Lou is our classic workaholic who puts his profession before family because apparently "family can't fire you". However, he soons finds out thay family can, in fact, fire you. Gabe, a homeless guy Lou showed kindness to, comes as a miracle into Lou's life. Gabe always seems to be in two places at once, and that's exactly what Lou needs. Gabe gives Lou the gift of time.
This novel ends with a beautiful lesson emphasizing the importance of family and time. The writing is amazing, easy to read and flows pretty easily. Cecelia Ahern is a lovely writer and this is another book full of magic.
I finished it in two sittings. If you're in a reading slump, this is the perfect book to pick up!
Favorite Quote : "Being the best was as equal to being in the middle, which was equal to being the worst. All were merely a state of being. It was how a person felt in that state and why they were in that state that was the important thing."

The Gift by Cecelia Ahern
This was a cute feel good story about finding out what your priorities are and what you spend your time on. Cecelia Ahern is one of my favourite authors and has been for years. I love how she subtly weaves magic in. I find her style of writing is always engaging and I’ve never not enjoyed one of her stories.
I actually quite enjoyed it, but I do think it might be better as a novella as it was quite predictable. A little shorter and I would have felt more happy with the outcome. As it was, by the end I was hoping for a big twist or something and was left wanting more.
@staceylovesastory I found a book that’s not a romantic love story! This is more about family, work/life balance, and appreciating the simple moments.

There are too many cliches in here that didn't do much good to the story. But, then again, it tells the same things we've heard for ages. Priorities, choices, work, family, value, gratitude, time... The classic subjects in a Christmas story. Thus, originality was not the strong point. Also, I had the feeling that I was reading a book written specifically for a movie. I suppose it made it very easy to imagine everything, but it all sounded a bit too much like Hollywood. I still haven't decided if I liked that or not, but it made everything seem cheesier.
One of the things I found to be truly offensive was the author's referencing of nationalities throughout the book. I didn't get the reason for mentioning a Romanian flower seller or a Polish nanny. It didn't bring anything to the story, except for some negative connotations and maybe a connection to current times and issues. There was also a child's toy called Beyonce which made me raise my eyebrows. That is my opinion and maybe I got it wrong, who knows? I haven't figured out the intention for doing this, but I still disliked it a lot.
Anyhow, the ending was good and there were some parts that impressed me. What I did get from reading this book is a bit of inspiration for spending the holidays. Now I want to go ice skating.
