The Gift

Cecelia Ahern

I LOVE CECELIA! BUT I ALSO HATE HER! SHE MAKE ME CRY!!! ALL. THE. DAMN. TIME!

This might be the one I'll always cry every time I'd read it again and again.

But seriously, who wouldn't love little darling Cecelia?

BUT OH MY GOD YOU'RE BREAKING MY HEART! (no pun intended.)

But moving on. Magic. Magic. Magic. One thing I love Ms. Ahern is because of her magical plots. It's very realistic at first, then comes a *puff* and you freaking entered Wonderland (and no, no queen of hearts. Just Alice).

And then comes a bend in the road.

This book will definitely put you in the edge, and just wanna stop everything that you wanted to do and instead read The Gift. Also, comes with a perfect lesson. Won't regret it!

Still the best Cecelia Ahern novel I read

It was beautiful story and I wont ever sick of reading it multiples of time!

"Time cannot be packaged and ribboned and left under trees for Christmas morning. Time can't be given. But it can be shared."

◆ Genre: Adult Fiction/Christmas themed
◆ The Gift is about a man, Lou, who always wishes he was two places at once. Always preferring work over family was how he lived.
◆ Cecelia doesn't deter from making you hate Lou. He really is a horrible man who keeps betraying his family time and again.
◆ Lou is a man who prefers his work over family all the damn time. He is so involved in his work that he hasn't even spent time alone with his own 2-year-old child.
◆ He meets Gabe, a begger, at the entrance of his office. Now, Gabe is a mysterious character. He helps Lou realize that family is important and gives him time to spend it with them. By giving him time, I literally mean that. Lou is suddenly two places at once. At one place, he is with his wife and at the other place, he's boating with his brother.
◆ What really worked for me was how Lou knows how awful he is and then, started appreciating his wife, his children and his parents. He accepted he was terrible and just worked to change that. That was a wonderful thing to see.
◆ All in all, Cecelia knows how to take a simple story and make a fairy tale out of it and that's why I love her.
◆ However, the ending was cruel. It was one of the saddest endings I have ever read. i cried.
◆ would I read it again? - I have already read it thrice. So maybe yes and no.

#ReadHarderChallenge2017 : Read a book you've read before. ✔

In the future, if (when) my ambition and drive for money makes me lose focus on life and love and all the beautiful things around me, I'll remember this book, I'll reread this book, to help remember that it's not money or status or power that matters but love. The love of your family and friends, just being around them, doing silly things that people do, talking crazy things that people do, just hanging out, having fun. That's what's important. In a simple model Cecelia Ahern has managed to incorporate a powerful message and I'm so glad I read this!
And this book is a testament, an epitome against those people who say that reading fiction books is useless as you don't really learn anything through it!
This book doesn't really teach us anything, it only reminds us to remember how great life, something that escapes our eyes daily, is. Thank you Miss Ahern, for this amazing book!
dark emotional medium-paced

This teaches me quite a lesson on time management. Also included on it one of my best quotes :)

This is a cute book. Maybe some will find it's trying to teach you a lesson (ie. value those around you), but I didn't find that (perhaps I'm getting soft in my old age). I was kept guessing be the ending, but I wonder why there are always deaths in books by this author (cf P.S. I Love You)? There is also a little bit of suspension of reality in order for the main character, Lou, to learn his lesson.
Please don't read this as a happy Christmas book, because although you may be more inclined to listen to your great aunt's trips down memory lane, it may not put you in the happiest festive spirit..
