I struggled to finish this book. I loved the first in the series, liked the second well enough, and couldn’t stand this one. Part of it is that I’m tired of the cynical view every character has of everyone else - no one can ever just be content or happy. Everyone is nasty and views everyone else in the worst possible light.

This book was a slog because the first death is put down as an accident, so it doesn’t even feel like a murder mystery. It’s absolutely not a thriller, as the cover claims. I did not believe the conclusion, and didn’t find it satisfying. I think I’d have enjoyed it more if it felt like I had a chance of figuring out what had happened, or if I thought it was all a bit more plausible.

I’ve noticed a strange trend in this series where the same person discovers both bodies. Twice was odd but now it’s been all these books, and it’s just a bit off putting.

I don’t think I’ll go on to read #4 in this series after this extremely disappointing entry.

As with the previous book, a great build up, but a terribly dull conclusion. That said, I can't stop reading the series, even though I always hate the endings!

Sünge krimka, kus lahenduskäik tundub ehtsam kui tavaliselt kombeks. Pärast järjekordset Cleeves'i raamatu lugemist on tunne, et saarerahvad on üks omaette tõug ohtlikke inimesi :D

The third book in the Shetlands Island series is set during the spring. Normally a time of rebirth and celebration, spring in the Shetlands starts with the discovery of human remains at an archaeological dig and a tragic accident that results in the death an elderly woman. Detective Jimmy Perez is called in by Sandy Wilson, who turns out to be the grandson of the dead woman, to assist. As clues emerge, it seems that the old and new deaths may have a tie, which is further complicated when a young archaeologist is found dead. Perez and Wilson sort through family feuds to discover the truth about the past and present. The beautiful writing, complex stories, and unique setting keep me coming back to this series.

O início é bastante lento, enquanto vamos conhecendo as personagens e como se relacionam. A meio a coisa ganha mais ímpeto. Um ou outro mistério foram fáceis de adivinhar.

Another enjoyable read that had me guessing to the final reveal.
