Nice change of pace from The Stand and a Richard Price book. Things turn out ok when the goal is Behaving Properly in Public.

When the going gets tough, the tough make tea.

I loved this book so much and didn't want it to end. I felt like I was becoming part of the family! So very lovable characters in such a beautiful setting. The narrator's Voice was beautiful and perfect with all of her different voices. I would read it again and recommend to everyone

A sort of comforting and nostalgic family saga with an inevitable tragedy but set in the stunning Scottish countryside. However a  noticeably dated reminder of old school attitudes towards gender, mental health, childcare and ethnicity. Also, lots of smoking and alcohol, noone seemed to drive anywhere without at least a couple of shots of whiskey or a few glasses of champagne to see them on their way!

A tale of families, love and coming to terms with your past actions.
Our main setting is the family home in Scotland of the Airds. We gain an insight into their somewhat privileged life and the ins and outs of daily life for their friends and family.
The main focus of the book is a party to be held in honour of one of the young women in the area. It’s the perfect excuse to gather everyone together…including some who have not been back to the place for some time.
This was slow going. Lots of beautiful description, and yet I couldn’t help but feel that little happened until they’re assembled for the party and the intricacies of their lives are revealed to us.

I struggled to connect with the writing, it hasn't aged well and it just don't have that pull to read it.
