I loved this one so much! It covered mental health and how complex our identities can be. I love how much it added to the story! I very much enjoyed reading this.

Okorafor just has a mastery of saying so much in so little. The world she created is only further expanded upon in a more local setting. The first Binti novella sets up the world outside of Earth very clearly, but this installment returns to Earth and establishes the dynamics of the home world. This also feels more character-oriented as we get to see Binti's family and their relationship with her and her decisions.

Read for Pop Sugar Reading Challenge 2021 prompt: Afrofuturist

The more time I spend in this universe, the more I enjoy it. Seeing Binti's home planet was great (the world building did a great job avoiding the 'planet is a homogenous culture' trope that a lot of sci fi books fall into). Some of the science feels a bit over my head but i like the challenge. Probably should have rolled directly into the third book as this ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. Also hoping to get more from Okwu in the third part.
