There is something wonderful about the understated, beautifully crafted, honest Resident Tourist series of graphic novels that explores Singaporean identity & working out what to do with your life. Plus it's good to see SGLit celebrities/characters/flaneurs in a (dare I say very complimentary to their looks) graphic novel context (e.g. Dr Gwee Li Sui, Kenny Leck, Dave Chua in Elmo T-shirt etc). There is something about line drawings that removes the obvious flaws e.g. acne, wrinkles, fat etc. For a nuanced and 'authentic' view of 'Ownership. Courage. Compassion' you can't beat The Resident Tourist.
