Hawthorne and Horowitz return in The Sentence is Death, a captivating mystery that surpasses its predecessor. The plot revolves around the mysterious death of a lawyer, a victim of a brutal attack eerily similar to a threat he received days prior.
One of the strengths of this novel lies in its well-developed cast of characters. Akira, the pretentious literary fiction writer, is a particular standout, with her complex personality and surprising revelations. The dynamic between Hawthorne and Horowitz is also a highlight, their witty banter and contrasting personalities adding a layer of humor to the suspense.
The audiobook format enhances the listening experience, bringing the story to life with vivid performances. However, while the twists and turns are cleverly executed, the identity of the killer felt a bit abrupt. There were few if any subtle hints or foreshadowing to suggest their capability for such a heinous act.
Despite this minor flaw, The Sentence is Death is a thrilling ride that will keep readers guessing until the very end. If you enjoy a good whodunit with plenty of twists and turns, this series is definitely worth checking out.

I thought this was pretty on-par with the first book! I think you will enjoy this book if you liked book one!

I'm excited to read the third book!

Another fun read. I like that they're not too long. I've yet to figure one of these out, which is fun for me!

I got this as a review copy from Net Galley. I love it as much as the first book in the series. It was highly entertaining and if anything, even more satisfying than the first in terms of the character development. The similarities between Sherlock Holmes and Watson and Horowitz and Hawthorne, the clever plotting and the whole self reflexiveness of the writing is really satisfying.
