For me this is a 3, since I’m not terribly wild about sports stories and I wanted more romance. But the actual content and story are important to be told. The details about Ojibwe culture were the highlight for me while reading it. The story was easy to read but with lots of emotion to being it all together and drive the story and characters forward. I’ll definitely be recommending this to folks who come into the library.
Really great book to appeal to athletes and life on a reservation!!

High interest for the student athletes - especially basketball. Would consider for book groups in grade 8. Beautiful perspective on love, loss, and change. Indigenous author debut novel.

I wanted to love this, but I just didn't. If you're interested in hearing the inner-monologue of a high school sophomore who loves to play basketball with little to nothing else going on in the story, then this book is for you. Me? I was bored. This book had so much potential to let readers into a culture that doesn't get the attention it deserves, but the fact that Tre was part of the Ojibwe tribe was so very distant to the story that he could have been just about any kid. Overall a disappointment.

Rez Ball shares the indigenous experience through a sports perspective. Byron Graves tackles tough issues in his community with lots of love, hope, and of course basketball.
Rants:
Khanna was SO not worth it. She was the character I disliked the most.
It felt a lot like a sports anime, and a bit of a fairy tale too.
Rants:
Moderate: Alcohol
Minor: Death, Car accident
