TRUCKER AND TRAIN is a book I wish I had when my kids were little…specifically my older one. He’s rather self-absorbed and into showing off his shiny intellectual prowess rather than being useful. I have no idea how he is so different from my younger (and considerate) child. Since he used to be obsessed with trains and vehicles, this would have been the perfect book to teach him about being thoughtful of others without him actually knowing it’s a lesson because it’s so well written. Stark’s text sings and Kolar’s illustrations are delightful! He infuses such character into the vehicles.
Trucker is a bully who can't understand why none of the other vehicles like him (he/him). Trucker is jealous of Train (non-gendered) who can stop all the traffic. Trucker saves the day by blocking the tracks when a traffic gate is broken. Then all the vehicles love him.
There's a decent message, but it needed more build-up for a true change of heart, and the text is unnecessarily small and cramped.
that truck sure is a jerk! and since when do mopeds drive on the highway in the middle of nowhere?
Wish there had been a bigger character arc - the character never really understands why his behavior was disrespectful in the first place.
