They are mostly historical but lots of experiments on animals this book talks about are very cruel and hard to listen to.

It got a little gross for me halfway through. Also I find some of the actions of past humans morally awful. But it was a good informative book

Not for the squeamish!! At one point I thought I might not finish it, it was so ghoulish at many places. But the author's dry humor helped me see it through to the final chapter where she confesses what she has chosen for her OWN cadaver.

Overall it was often thoughtful, often humorously irreverent, always a treasure trove for the curious.

It really gets into the nitty-gritty about the myriad possible uses and dispositions of dead humans. As the author did research for the book, she came up with lines of inquiry that never would have occurred to me! Being a hale 69 year old woman reading this book, I found it distressing at times and ghoulish. But I'd rather age with my eyes open and to have considered the many points she makes than to have remained ignorant about this subject.

I needed to read a book on a subject I knew nothing about. Cue Mary Roach's book about cadavers! The good: I did learn a lot about cadavers, and about science done with cadavers. The bad: sometimes there was an ick factor, and about half the time, the "ick" factor was an ethical one, rather than a body-horror one. The "more bad": there are a lot more animals in here than I was expecting, and a lot of those animals are ... not cadavers. Honestly, I wish I had picked a different book.

Very interesting. Read this through several meals and am realizing how high my gore tolerance is. (Because boy is there a lot of it).  My favorite thing about Mary roach is that she makes nonfiction accessible. Her books are often narrative based, humorous, and lack the density that I find makes many nonfiction books hard to finish.
