The book is a good reminder of how silly and useless it is to pressure people into living fake lives. Counterproductive. Pitiful. I can't imagine the pain of being on one's deathbed with profound regrets of opportunities lost and a life never lived.

I struggled to get into this but had to read for a book club. Can’t quite put my finger on what I didn’t like about it.

Just didn’t enjoy this very much

A fascinating read, though at times a heavy and heartbreaking one, about the fractures in a seemingly typical family that grow out of the secrets they all harbor. It definitely gave me a lot to think about in terms of things like generational trauma, and it was affirming to see this family that was so badly splintered and traumatized find ways to claw back together, even if imperfectly.
