"It's kind of like when you look at yourself in the mirror and you say your name. And it gets to a point where none of it seems real." What a great description of dissociation during panic attacks.
I remember watching the movie for this book when it was all the hype on tumblr and everyone got "we were infinite" tattooed lol. It was a great coming of age movie and the book lived up to the hype. It was such a great read and it truly felt like you were in Charlies head. You get a real clear image of his thought process which really built his character. The best part about this book was how you could really picture yourself being there in every scene. From in the basement with his friends to the dinners with his families. I loved the concept of "participating" rather than just watching as life passed you by and especially the point that Sam made at the end of the book. You go through the whole story admiring how Charlie talks about Sam and how unconditional those feelings were. However Sam was right, she could never be with Charlie based on the fact that he did not have a personality and just molded his character to please other and not cause trouble. When you love someone, you try to show the best version of yourself only creating an illusion. True love is being the truest version of yourself with them, even if it's not the prettiest at times.

2022. I watched the movie when I was 15. I read the book when I was 17 and I went through it again at 22 and I don’t think I will ever be the same.

I was being naive, judgemental and shallow to ever believe I ever understood anything. Being so out of it to call the characters unrealistic and hard to understand. For having stopped at the surface of things, calling it an over romanticised love story between a bunch of teenagers. Lord, if I could take it all back. Which I am somehow by editing this review.

A coming of age story of pain and emotions, if abuse and of personal growth. A book that I used to believe to be one of the many, only to realise years later it to be possibly one of the works with the greatest cultural footprint of modern times. Themes that might seem apparent at first, only for them to reveal themselves to be deep and immeasurable pits of thoughts and reflection. A book that I will recommend everyone to read at least once in their lifetime, in the hope we can all learn something from it.
