I wanted more maid. I may have also wanted more cockroach. A Breath of Life, her last novel, did feel like some sort of a magnum opus. Like her life’s work lead to it. Like she “didn’t understand what she was saying” and didn’t even finish it.
I love what Clarice writes. It troubles me. It moves me. I can almost say I get it, and it is in the realm of the unsayable.
This felt more like a stream of consciousness. At some points, I didn’t even want to understand what she was saying.
