Probably the weakest book in the trilogy, but it still had it's cute and endearing moments. The beginning half of the book was a slooooog for me to get through, but it picked up near the end, and had quite a sweet and endearing conclusion.
I'm personally not a fan of the "fake lovers" trope, at least when the motivation for each party to do so are extremely poor. Especially when Evan (the love interest) was honestly, unbearable during the first half of the book. He supposedly had a "good reason" to be such an asshole, but I don't buy it.Then for him in the second half of the book to say he fell for her from basically the moment they met, felt like whiplash. Very disingenuous. I do enjoy an enemies to lovers, but these two literally felt like they were DISGUSTED by each other in the beginning. So their dynamic lacked charm for most of the book.
The entire romance happens over the span of 2 weeks, which also felt a bit nutty considered they despised each other half of the time. Going from "Ugh, your less then the dirt on my shoe" to "Omigod, I don't know if I can breath without him" is an insane jump in such a short amount of time lol. Feels very bipolar.
Even with all that said, sometimes a whirlwind romance can just hit the right nerve in my brain and get me giddy nonetheless. The sex and intimate moments they had were incredibly sweet and heartfelt. The theme of not only building a bond with a romantic interest, but forming new family bonds enriched the story as well.
Overall it took awhile for me to get into it, but once I did it was sweet. I'm glad to have completed the trilogy!

Waffled between a 3 and a 4, but ultimately went with the 3 because it really was so lackluster. Neither of the characters were particularly likable and their romance was severely lacking in emotional depth. I almost never root against the main couple, but here I just didn't even care. The writing was decent, but there was so much 'telling' instead of 'showing' which makes me think that was a good chunk of the issue. Considering the second book in the series was better than the first, I anticipated this one being the best. It was quite a let down to find that it wasn't even as good as the first installment. I'm sure I'll continue reading her books because it's obvious from Ex's and Oh's what she can do, but this wasn't it.
“You're never alone in this world while I'm in it, Mel.”
I absolutely loved this book! So many of my favourite tropes, including enemies to lovers, fake dating/engagement, and the good old classic Big Town Girl meets Small Town Boy. This book takes place in small town Nova Scotia, and I love the Canadian fishing village setting. The dialogue and chemistry between the characters is 10/10; they're both fun, witty, and stubborn as all hell. An excellent read that I would recommend to anyone who loves a good rom-com!

4.25/5 ⭐️s
🌶️🌶️ - medium spice
LOVES:
- My god, the little kid crushing on her is so awkward and hilarious 😂 I actually ended up with some grudging respect for him
- The commentary on fashion and beauty: what it means for both of them, how it represents people, the stigma it has for women 👌 well done
- The term “mantrum” is one of my new favorite things 🤭
- The way she melds into his family, especially in her state of loneliness and lack of family connection of her own 🥹
- Evan figures out what he wants and he doesn’t shy away from telling Melanie what it is. I love a clear and honest MMC 💙
CRITIQUES:
- The “enemies” portion felt a little sluggish, maybe partly because it was single POV. Once things turned a corner for them, I found the book held my attention better.
- Seriously. He just tells her to use random leaves from the woods with no warning?? 🤦♀️
I really appreciated this conclusion to the series. I love the three FMCs from each book and I honestly would’ve liked to see more from the other two in this book, but they had their place.
Melanie was really in a war with herself and the author did a great job of fleshing it all out in Mel’s head and through conversations with others. It’s a fun rom-com with enough depth to keep it interesting.
