The Catch

when will it happen to MEEEEEEEE

This series is truly such a delight. Amy has become an author I’ll continuously look out for! Funny, steamy, gut-punchy swoonfests all around. I need 20 more

This book was very well written. I found the plot quite enjoyable which encouraged me to keep reading. There were many parts of the story that were cute, and I would even say they were perfect for a romcom. The place where this book fell a little short was after the typical "break up" scene. Although the resolution was interesting and pulled on my heart strings a little, I found that it took slightly too long for the main characters to get back together. The ending and the epilog e made up for this though. All in all, I enjoyed this book and would read it again.

This is the third and final book of Amy Lea’s Influencer series and my favorite of the three.

Synopsis: When Mel, a social media influencer, ends up in Nova Scotia on the wrong weekend, she has no choice but to shift her plans and stay at a local B&B at a small fisher’s town. There she meets the grumpiest fisherman Evan

Thoughts: This book can best be described as The Proposal meets While You Were Sleeping. I loved the influencer angle and how easy it was to fall for not only the two main characters but also all the meddling townspeople. Evan was a major grump but was open with his emotions and did so many little acts of kindness to show he cared about Mel. While the love story in this escalated quickly, I did not mind the instant attraction because all of the forced proximity x fake dating.

Read if you like:
-Grumpy x sunshine
-Fake dating
-Forced proximity
-Lifestyle influencers
-Meddling families
-Canadian fisher’s town setting

The author said this was The Proposal and While You Were Sleeping. I feel like this was a not as good version of Hook Line and Sinker. It was ok. I liked the MMC but I don’t tend to love influencer main characters. It was a quick read. I feel like this also goes in deadliest catch fan fic category.

This story is a slow burn romance and has some of my favorite tropes like grumpy meets sunshine, a fake engagement and a small town guy/big city girl. The scenery is beautiful with a lobster festival and whale watching. It took me a little bit to get hooked into the book but once I did, I couldn’t put it down.

Melanie (Mel) is a twenty nine year old fashion influencer from Boston who is losing followers and sponsors and being told her content is stale. She’s trying to figure out a way to revitalize her brand when she gets a surprising offer from a resort in Nova Scotia offering her an all-expense paid visit if she will promote their resort on her socials. She sees this as a chance to revitalize her brand and sets out on her trip, but when she arrives, there is a glitch with the booking and she can’t check in for another week. She decides to find another place to stay while she waits but it’s tourist and fishing season and everything close by is booked. She finds an Airbnb in Cora Cove, an hour and a half from Halifax, and when she gets there, the inn is rundown and there's a tall, bearded grump who turns out to be Evan, one of the owners, and he dislikes her on sight (because he thinks she’s a high maintenance, city girl influencer).

This is where the story really took off for me – Mel decides to go out on a whale tour and Evan is the guide. He gets knocked overboard and when he’s in a coma at the hospital, Mel lies and says she’s his fiancé so he won’t be alone in the ICU. When his quirky family shows up, they are very excited to hear he has a fiancé and this reminded me of the movie, While You Were Sleeping, and it gets lively! Evan’s family had been struggling after the death of his cousin in a boat accident and when Evan sees how happy his family is over their engagement, he asks Mel to be his fake fiancé for a week. She’s finding herself falling for Evan’s rugged looks in his flannel shirts and I loved it when Evan takes her fishing, camping and then to the lobster festival.

Mel had a lot of growth in the story going from being annoyingly worried about looking perfect in her social media posts to being her authentic self with Evan and taking a chance on love.

Melanie’s best friends are Crystal from Set on You and Tara from Exes and O’s and it’s fun when they both make appearances in the story. I recommend this to readers looking for a romcom with a unique story and fun characters in a beautiful Nova Scotia setting. My full review is at All About Romance.
