An excellent biography with a healthy dose of feminism that I devoured in a single day.

O’Meara is a phenomenal writer with a wry wit and brazen honesty. She pulls no punches in her scathing critique of the Hollywood machine, of her own experiences, even of Milicent Patrick herself. She takes us along on her journey through archives and research libraries as she hunts down every tidbit of information on her subject and weaves that into the story of Milicent’s eccentric, exciting life.

Very entertaining! Also enraging and frustrating.
This is a dual narrative, pairing O'Meara's search for Milicent Patrick with the fruit of her investigation, the biography itself. I personally enjoy this type of creative nonfiction, and liked that O'Meara's presence is always felt, even in the biographical sections. I know not everyone likes that, so heads up if it annoys you.
I hope the next season of Face Off has a Milicent Patrick challenge.

I really appreciated the work O'Meara did here uncovering Milicent Patrick's work and life. She was a fascinating woman and it was wonderful to get to read about someone whose legacy was stolen from her for so long. I enjoyed the conversational style of the book and -- to an extent -- the way she wove her own research journey into the narrative of the biography.
This did really read like a debut book, though. I found it to be more than a little bit repetitive; some of the parts where she described the research were a little too drawn-out; and she ascribed a lot of feelings to Patrick (lots of "She must have felt..."s).
Still a good, easy read that I recommend for the knowledge contained within!
