3 1/2 Stars is a fairer score. Goodreads needs to allow for more nuanced star ratings.
This, as with other, Manga I've read, leaves me with the impression early on that it is all fairly pedestrian, but then I find myself swept along with the story the further on I read. By the final third of this story, it all starts getting very Squid-Game-like, which I approve wholeheartedly.
Typical range of characters, but the eternally optimistic Gon is a fine lead protagonist.
A series dating back to the 90's, and the art in some ways reflects this, and has me asking which playing card tossing assassin came first, Gambit or Hisoka?
With the hero's left in a precarious position at this volumes end, the next book is one
I'm looking forward too.

It's about a boy named Gon going on a whole bunch of adventures and trying to become a hunter like his dad and try to find his dad named Ging who he's never met.
