Sounds Like Love by Ashley Poston

150 reviews

A cute romance about a songwriter, who has writers block, and a washed up popstar who meet and soon realize they can hear each other thoughts. They come together to try to figure it out and in the process, learn a lot about themselves, and of course fall in love. For the most part, it was pretty good time. However, it does tackle some heavy issues that you might want to prepare yourself for. No trigger warning was given about this, though I feel like it probably should have been. And this may be a little bit of a spoiler so skip this if you don’t wanna know. But FMC‘s mother has dementia. And reading about her struggles is a hard thing to face if you’re not expecting it and if you’ve been personally impacted by this horrible disease. So just a word of warning about that.

But aside from that, the story was pretty heartwarming and uplifting. But expect some tears. 3.5 stars.

It's nice to read an Ashley Poston book again! "The Seven Year Slip" was one of my favorite read of 2023. And still remains one of my favorite romance books so I wanted to check this author out again.

It book was so fun and cozy. I don't really have much to say about it. The plot was simple. However I felt like the characters were three dimensional enough to make for a compelling story. I really enjoyed all the side characters (lowkey wouldn't mind a book on how Gigi and Mitch got together; they were so cute) and side plots. I loved reading about Joni's gripe with her dreams and coming to terms with that your dreams can change as you progress through life and evolve as a person. What kept this from being highly rated was the fact that I didn't feel emotionally connected to the romance and wanted more emotional depth for their relationship. Overall, a nice read!

Loved it. Would be 5 stars, but several big misses about OBX and Southeastern beaches in general were hard to ignore.

6 stars ⭐️ Six, for every time this book made me cry.

Music is such a powerful tool and Ashley Poston used it to its every advantage. I tried my best to pause and listen to every reference that I could in the moment and each one just made the story more and more grounded. The songs made me slow down and feel everything. They made me laugh, dance, and cry.

Most notably, the ones that I felt the most were, Dancing in the Dark, which was also referenced beautifully in Happy Place by Emily Henry (see page 251). Stand By Me, which I think is my favorite song of all time. And Vienna…because was just criminal.

And Born to Run, as that is the song that plays when I think about goodbye I didn’t get to say.

A great read that I can definitely see reading again. I didn't think based on the description that I would like this book all that much but the execution was great. Highly recommend.

This didn't suck me in quite as quickly as her other books, but I eventually warmed up to it and ended up having a good time!
