Solid book! Very educational regarding the struggles of First Nations people in Canada. I read it for school and learned quite a bit from it, like what intergenerational trauma is an what it can look like in someone’s life. Also really enjoyed the use of Indigenous stories and magic! Three stars!

I can see why this was turned into a CBC show. An engaging coming of age journey with little twists and supernatural elements that felt genuine and real. Excited that it’s a series!

Ungefähr in den ersten zwei Dritteln des Buchs war jedes Kapitel so sparsam und elegant wie eine Kurzgeschichte für Erwachsene. Auch die Handlung sieht zwar ein bisschen nach harmlosem YA-Fun aus, aber es geht ziemlich schonungslos zu. Gegen Ende geht es dann ein paar Kapitel lang explizit um Magie, ich fand sowohl das Geschehen als auch die Art, wie darüber geredet wird, einen Bruch zum Rest des Buchs. Dann aber wieder relativ eleganter, realistischer Schluss.

This was really good. Robinson's story is engrossing and the use of daily life of Jared draws the reader in. There are sections that will make you laugh, and sections, one in particular where you will sob.
