Anyway, I'm also not that into superhero fantasy either. Never got into them as a kid so there's no nostalgia going on for it to appeal to me. And now, I still don't feel the want nor need to bother because most of them (or at least, the mainstream ones) were of white people saving humanity, or something. Not to mention the oversexualization of the female characters, whenever they do exist.
I know they are also probably complex and emotional and still explore themes of justice and stuff. But why should I bother when there are plenty other books out there with more inclusivity that explores the same themes with as epic a scale?
So yeah! I'm glad I have stuff from the subgenre I can consume now because it doesn't have the problematic aspects the old ones had that I really can't tolerate anymore. (the only other exception besides this I currently know is the Ms Marvel stuff).
It was really fun and refreshing and... a bit cathartic, tbh.
Moderate: Police brutality and Racism

The protagonist is bisexual for anyone looking for that representation. N.K. Jemisin’s writing is quite inventive but wow, Jamal Campbell’s Art & Colors are the star of this book. My rating for this book is at 4 simply because DC’s current practice of using lower quality paper in their trade paperbacks just doesn’t do Jamal Campbell’s art the Justice it deserves. If this book gets a Deluxe Hardcover or an Absolute Edition I will without a doubt upgrade and sell off this basic edition for the pure reason of seeing the art at its best.
