A fun, quick read featuring quirky Nina Hill. Nina works in a book shop. She is very organized and her single life is full and exactly how she wants it. But then...she finds out that she has a father (now dead) and family she never knew about. This is a sweet story although the very end felt weak and rushed.

3.5

Really odd writing style detracted from decent story.

Diversity- one gay character, sex is mentioned but not portrayed, some language

I liked this book, loved the Pride and Predjudice similarities but it's not my favorite.

Best part: The part where Nina lists her five perfect things. I loved that line.

“Well, maybe one of us will introduce you to someone worth cancelling book club for.”
“I seriously doubt that. You’ve heard the phrase fact is stranger than fiction?”
“Of course.”
“Well, it’s also much less attractive.”

I’m going for 4 stars because I hadn’t laughed this hard with a book in a long while, but it’s more like 5 brilliant stars for the first half (enemies to lovers! sarcasm! funny jokes! awesome Nina!! books!!) and 3 or even 2.5 for the second half. It was still funny as hell, but it got very cheesy at times, and kind of messy. The focus at first is on the romance, and it was brilliant and funny but then there was the family stuff and it made sense, with the good relatives and the bad relatives, but towards the end everything was forgotten
Spoilerso Nina could bond with her (surprise, surprise) not-so-evil-in-the-end niece
. I think Nina's anxiety is greatly portrayed for the most part. There was a moment there that I thought the author would go for the old “love cures everything” trope but thank goodness she didn’t. The ending was the weakest point in my opinion, too predictable and cliched, but otherwise this was an awesome last reading of my holidays

I'm giving this book 4 stars because it was fun and witty and perfect for a gray winter's day. And not is it about books, readers, and trivia, it takes place in the Larchmont district of LA that I love.
The actual bookstore ob Larchmont is called Chevalier's - which is French for Knight.
No big reveal, no surprises whatsoever, just a fun read.
