I really enjoyed this book, so much so that I’m writing a review for the first time.
Yes, sometimes it was difficult or cringey to read during the relationship with Sam. For anyone that has been in a controlling or abusive relationship, there are points in this story where you want to yell at Julia and throw the book (or ereader across the room), but that’s the point. Leaving is hard. Falling into something that seems exciting and affirming (especially after realizing your sexuality) is easy, or at least difficult to believe is harmful. I think this was captured beautifully and made me reflect on all the stupid shit I did when I first came out.
I loved Nicky! Reminded me of my best friend when I needed someone to knock some sense into me.

Laugh out loud funny moments in this! Hilarious with heartbreak but so self aware that I really rate this. Excellent LGBTQ+ mature coming out and romance story. Listened free on BBC Sounds.
