In At The Deep End is described as a lesbian Bridget Jones, and while the similarities are there, this is a book on its own. Julia, the main character, in this book, is in a sex drought. She tries to remedy this, but is not really satisfied. She turns to women, and the world is open to her. At first, she likes the idea of being a lesbian almost as much as actually being a lesbian. She likes the community and the reaction from other people when she tells them.
However, she then finds herself beyond exploring and entering a relationship with a woman. This book has a LOT of sex (NSFW, the cover warns) and while it's not exceptionally graphic, it is mentioned in nearly every chapter. Once you get past the sex, it has a good story with good characters. Julia is a little naive, but it's an understandable naive for anyone who has been in a relationship that others don't necessarily approve of, regardless of gender.
The book gives a good insight into the LGBQT+ community in England.
Thank you to Bookish First for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

DNF, truly abysmal

I recommend that no one reads this book but for me personally it was a much needed recalibration

Last book of the year. Started off as a cute coming out story and quickly spiralled into a story about a toxic relationship that made me angry. Genuine and enjoyable narrative but the actual story itself was a bit depressing. Glad to have read it though as I continue to try and read more diversely & from different perspectives.

If you’re an urban millennial lesbian you’ve lived this book or one of your best friends has. Entertaining enough, especially on audiobook which has a decent production value. All baby dykes should probably be issued a copy upon coming out to serve as a PSA against charismatic, codependent and possibly narcissistic butch tops

A fun, queer read.
