“It’s hard to accept that you’re the villain of someone else’s story”.
When starting this book I sort of knew where it was going. A girl hasn’t had good experiences with men, oh she’s a lesbian now, blah blah. But the relationship she goes through with Sam is completely opposite of what I predicted. This book definitely has its wild moments and I read things I have never in my life thought I should read but it was a very good book and love, lost, and abuse. This book for sure isn’t for everyone, but I think those whole enjoy it at the beginning will really enjoy the book as a whole.

Lots of fun whilst being an interesting look at power dynamics in queer relationships.

I hadn’t heard of this book before it caught my eye in @waterstonesamsterdam , had I, then I may have been more prepared for the graphic descriptions of sex. This is not a complaint, I just needed to adjust my reading time. Fisting is not something to be reading about when your inquisitive 4 year old saunters over and asks what is happening in your book!

I still can't believe this book came out in 2019. The premise is tired and overdone (an unlucky in love British 20 something who is supposed to be relatable to all readers which makes her flat and boring).
The way queerness was talked about was truly wild. More, tired tropes and clichés. The stereotypes about queerness were not only boring but also just weird. It felt like it was written 20 years ago.
The humor was cheesy and felt like it was more for straight readers than queer ones. Really, this whole book feels like an out of touch straight woman's attempt at quirky queer fiction (yes I know Kate Davies is actually queer).
medium-paced

I really enjoyed this book! It was funny, sexy, a quick read. I laughed out loud starting on the first page!

I do have some issues, however, with the polyamorous characters and how the lifestyle was represented in the book. As a poly person myself, I was hoping for some redeeming poly characters to make an appearance to balance out Sam’s awfulness. Polyamory is often mistaken as being a sex fetish but that’s often not the case. I would have loved to have a poly couple in the book who were more normalized (Polly and Jasper sort of were but they were also more into the group sex stuff than I’ve personally experienced being part of this community).

All in all, I loved it! I recommend if you want a steamy read. On sale in the US on June 4, 2019!
