Somehow I actually enjoyed this book, despite not particularly liking most of the main characters. It was much more graphic than I was expecting.
My biggest problem with this was the way SM and polyamory were portrayed throughout the main relationship. I’m not involved in either of these communities (being an aromantic probably also asexual) but for two sex-positive women there was a lack of pre-sex conversation about what was okay and what wasn’t, and a little too much coercion for it to be truly consensual.

With the polyamory, I found Julia extremely frustrating, since she knew the relationship would be open from the beginning. Despite that, she only ever thought of it badly, her friends and therapist were horrible about it, and she wouldn’t talk to Sam about how that wasn’t what she wanted.

The ending was sweet, though.
