Robert Caro’s mighty work requires time and concentration but it is worth it. A story of the pursuit of power at (almost) any cost… and true.

Another great book. Coke Stevenson was fun to learn about and the insanity of LBJ's political career really gets going.
Covers LBJ's meandering years in congress, his health problems, his failed bid for a Senate seat, his career ambitions upset by WW2, and the electoral fraud he committed in his second successful Senate bid.
The stuff about him campaigning by helicopter and losing to the radio flour magnate was surreal, whereas the stuff about his rigged Senate bid was like something out of a western.
The book tends to be a bit repetitive at times, almost reminiscent of epic poetry though.
Anyway I did a twitter thread cataloging some interesting bits here.

This series has been one of the most fascinating historical, political biographies I've ever read. I do wonder if I would enjoy it as much if I was reading the text vs listening to it. I've flown through the first two door stoppers whereas other historical political books have taken me years to read (TEAM OF RIVALS & Bill Clinton's auto-bio for example) So, I do recommend the audiobook versions - the books are dense with info. It's been easier to stay engaged and remember what's happening with the audiobooks.
