I just don’t understand all the different ideas in the book. Seems like it’s inspired a lot by French culture but then also heavy on Scottish culture. I don’t understand what any of the storyline has to do with the “passions” which is what the first half of the book was so focused on. The verbiage is throwing me off too. Sometimes it comes off as being antiquated and others it’s more modern. Basically it all feels very disjointed.

I don’t really have a lot to say about this book other than that it is truly amazing. Well okay I do have a lot to say because CARTIER! Holy shit I love him so much haha. Also I almost never like the main character of a book but Brienna is great.
I do have to admit that it took me a while to get through the second quarter because I found it a little boring but other than that everything was just great and so well written.
2019 can you come sooner I need the sequel like ASAP 🤷🏻♀️

This was more of a classic fantasy read than some of her more recent books. It starts slower with more world building before we did a bit deeper into the story.
It was a slower connection to the characters, but I did grow to love them.
The last half of the story really picked up and we saw how so many little threads wove together which gave me an appreciation for the first half. She has set up the story well for book 2.
I’m curious how the story will play out. I can see how this was such a strong stepping stone for her later books and seeing her growth in her writing is really cool for me!
