Loved the mix of Sherlock Holmes with Frankenstein’s monster and Jeckyl and Hyde.

I loved this story. It was such a fun and unique take on the classic thriller/mysteries- Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Sherlock Holmes, The Island of Dr. Moreau, and the short story Rappaccini’s Daughter. It’s unique and offers the unique and important female perspective of each of these stories. I loved the formatting- each woman telling their story with interjects and sideline banter from the other women as “editing notes”. It offered a lot of humor to the dark subject of experiments and science and the treatment of women and the unintended but very real consequences that can accompany it.

Murder, mysteries, monsters… and good fun.

This book reads like the best sort of fan fiction (funny and meta and a little bit strange) but written by someone obsessed with Victorian gothic novels. The characters are great (it’s a feminist found family - LOVE) and it’s a thinker too.

The novel mixes up all sorts of classic stories, pulls them apart and remakes them in new and interesting ways... Not unlike the (awful) fathers of this ragtag bunch of monstrous heroines.

The pacing is a bit off towards the end. 3.5 stars but I rounded up as I like the concept and the characters very much.
