The Jungle Book

This is my first time reading The Jungle Book and what a pity I did not read it as a child! While there are some parts that can make some kids tremble, the book is great for promoting good values like loyalty, integrity and having a strong spine! Some stories are better than others and one of my favorites is Tiger, Tiger!

A collection of short stories compiled into Jungle Books 1 and 2. The first book is actually a 4 star. It contains lots of stories that were later turned into movies or TV cartoons, such as, the Jungle Book (obvs), The White Seal and Rikki-Tikki-Tavi. What I didn’t know, before reading this first half, is much of “The Lion King” also comes from the mind of Rudyard Kipling. Although, Kipling did take many of his story ideas from older Indian stories so he certainly wasn’t above source material inspiration.

The second half is truly the B-Side. You want to like it and convince yourself the stories are just as good…but they aren’t. I sadly had to DNF over the last few stories.

Les histoires sont inégales mais j’ai aimé retrouver Mowgli. L’histoire du phoque blanc était très belle aussi.

The stories are very well written and of great worth for everyone. Of course you need to overlook a few things, because Kipling wrote it in the 19th century, but if you can make that possible, you will see that the stories are truly beautiful.
For those of you that think you will read the story of Mowgli as it is portrayed in the Disney movie, you will be surprised, but in my opinion not in a bad way.
I strongly recommend this book, not only to young people, but also to adults!
It's an entertaining book, that will keep you engaged till the very last word.
My only warning is that because the books were published in 1894/1895 it is brutal at times and set in a time with a different mind set than today, so if your children want to read it, or you are a child that wants to read it, be aware of these circumstances.

Technically, I only read the first one...Rikki Tikki Tavi was my favorite story.
