This book lost me. This was my second attempt at finishing this book and it still took me forever to power through. I’m 23, so maybe this book just isn’t for me, but I just didn’t care much of what was happening. I’m just going to look at the summaries of the rest of the books to see how it ends, but I will not be continuing this series.

Wow. The best Vampire diaries book i have read till now. Wow.
This book killed me. I was crying around the last hunfred pages because of what happens to my presciou, beloved character. The last fes sentences just managed to revive me. As usual, L.J. executre her story line in a way that will engage all Vampire Diaries addicts. It made me crave more, but my disappointment is not hidden. The last few books are written by a ghostwriter because the publishing company allegedly disapproved of the endgame that L.J. Smith planned out. Regardless of what anyone say, The Vampire Diaries belongs to L.J. Smith, and it always will. She is the only one that is able to brilliantly illustrate the story of such a endearing group of characters, especially the delectable Salvatore brothers.

(Jesus Christ! This is the most...I'm trying to think of a better word than this but I can't find one...RIDICULOUSLY STUPID book I have ever read in my entire 19 years of life! I'm serious! When I first started reading it I couldn't read past four pages and I literally felt IQ points drop and I mean LITERALLY! They go from one thing to the other too fast, theres just random moments of calm while their town is being destroyed, Stefan is boring as watching paint dry and grass grow combined and WAY too okay with Elena and Damon, Elena just pisses me off in general because she acts like she's the most important person since Jesus, she's always the prettiest, smartest, most wonderful person ever and yet pretty much everything that happens is her fault. And Matt almost realizes what a gigantic withc with a B she really is but then he just figures he's mad at her and Damon. UGH! I hate Elena so much! Oh, and one last thing. Really? Meredith is a mini vampire? Ya okay*insert eyeroll*.)
Dunno what to write. 4.5 Stars. Review to come, when my mind of more clear (university stuff)
Actual review ahead!
Honestly I still don't know how I feel about this book. So forgive me if my review sounds odd.
In this final installment things get weirder. Damon's a human now, the town is under paranormal attack and Elena is like a ping pong ball going between the lusty relationship with Damon and the romantic relationship with Stefan (wait, that's a typical thing here).
The writing remains cohesive and Smith's typical writing (which is a good thing). But I wish we didn't have as much chapters working as fillers, really... They do help move the plot further, but they tend to be lengthy, which isn't a good thing.
Things start out bumpy with Damon running away to the underworld dimension (Dark Dimension I think?) and Bonnie tagging along. Behind stay the rest of the gang to try and save Fell's Church from the twins and their own version of hell on Earth.
This second storyline is as dark and nightmare-ish as it can be. The monsters and possessed children, the destroyed town and the really creepy bones scene... Readers be warned, this book has as many triggering scenes as the previous ones had, so if you're sensitive on nightmare-ish and bloody scenes, you should avoid them, or the book in general...
I know this review isn't making much sense but my feelings towards this book are still confusing! D:
What I didn't like? The constant lusty scenes between Elena and Damon. Those scenes never have much depth other than physical attraction. While Stelena isn't perfect, they at least have a connection that goes deeper than Delena.
I did enjoy a lot the Bamon scenes though. With Bonnie (a personal fave) Damon is a much better person, much more layered and much less lustful.
Ahh... I'll just wrap this up and put a stop to this torture with thoughts on the ending: poetic justice. I love how it was Damon in the end that helped saving a town he always said was indifferent to him. In the end, his sacrifice saved it.
I think it was the ending and Bonnie's growth that saved this book from getting a 3 stars rating, in all honesty. I am also glad to have some canon proof that Damon did love Bonnie.
Yadayadayada and I'm done!

The rule for this series is: expect the unexpected, and Midnight does not fail this rule. Its dynamic plot pulls the reader into a whirlpool of astonishing worlds and both horrific and wonderful experiences.
The characters reveal yet new sides while maintaining their core features. The relationship between them tangle some more, untangle, and then tangle again.
The clash between good and evil is epic and complicated. As it is common in the series there is always a bigger villain from the one you think. Shinichi has some big surprises up his sleeve, and I felt a little sorry even for him in the end. The good guys have secrets of their own, and some of those are not pleasant at all. This complexity of characters is what makes this series ever fresh and compelling.
My main complaint about this book is again the writing, which I would like a little less rushed. Some transitions could also be done somewhat more coherently to clear some confusing spots. The writing is basically the only thing that takes that half a star away.
The plot unravels spectacularly, and the ending is as enticing as ever, providing a lot of potential for the continuation of the series. I hope the ghost-writer, who is taking this series forward, keeps the good things that L. J. Smith established – a gripping, unpredictable plot and fabulous characters, and improves the shortcomings – mainly too jumpy writing.
I am certainly looking forward Phantom, the promising title of which is already making me speculate about its content. I hope it will be as surprising and familiar at the same time as the series so far.
RECOMMENDATION: Midnight is an exciting ending of The Vampire Diaries: The Return trilogy, and the fans will surely do not want to miss it.
