The Lost Symbol

The book is certainly a page turner. The end is a bit of a let down, but overall a fun read.

This book overall was done well. Even though the other two Robert Langdon books dealed heavily with Christianity, I felt this one took a few steps farther, and might make some readers a bit more uncomfortable.

This one had a few more twists and turns than we expect out of Mister Brown, but I like that. In his other books I was able to predict a lot of the twists, and I wasn't able to do that as well with this book. (I knew some, but not all)

Not Brown's best book, but still a good read, and highly entertaining.
adventurous informative mysterious tense fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: No

I really like all of these stories. Captivating and definitely worth the purchase price, as this will be a reread.

When I got to page 223, I realized that I'd read it before. Checked my log, and I read it 9 years ago. Not sure what that says. Dan Brown writes exciting stories based on treating ridiculous legend as though it were unlikely fact. Just remember to not take him seriously, suspend disbelief, and you can have a good dose of action & adventure.

I was slightly disappointed with this book. I felt it wasn't quite as good as "Angels and Demons" or "The DaVinci Code." The writing was not as smooth as the previous two novels and "The Lost Symbol" had many of the same character and plot issues, as well. Also, I felt this story was not as full of art and useless-but-really-cool-intellectual-tidbits as the first two books in the series.

However, it was gripping (especially in certain parts) and a satisfying read. To really enjoy this novel, one should read it without any expectations. Then, perhaps, it wouldn't be as disappointing overall.

Really a 2.5 stars. It was okay. Something was missing from the nonstop action of Angels and Demons (my favorite of the three). I am a big fan of the short chapters though! It gives me a stopping point in the evening.

Couldn't put it down, but also thought it was pretty horrible...and the last 100 pages or so were boring. Ah well, it's a Dan Brown book, what can you do?

My least fav of all the Robert Langdon books. He felt too much like a know it all. The plot was good, but Langdon felt cold, clinical and robotic in this book - when he’s usually much more sensitive. The villain in this book gave me the creeps! A solid 2.5 stars for me.

So... It´s a Dan Brown book, so it is mysterious and thrilling. But the end just ruined everything to me... The other two books end with a mystery being solved by a spectacular event and a sense of "there is more than meets the eye". This one is too subtle.. gave me the impression that Langdon is getting old and slow, and for god sake, when you find the Graal you should start believing that everything is possible and don´t spend the entire book so skeptical.
