3.5 stars because i really enjoyed the characters and the storyline i loved getting a book where oak was one of the main characters, it doesn’t live up to the cruel prince series in my opinion and i found some parts boring and just there to fill time. it was an it predictable for my tastes but still an enjoyable read

I'm a little torn on Wren. On one hand, I really hate when characters have traumatic backstories that only seem to impact them when it's convenient for the plot, so I appreciated that things Wren had been through did actually impact her thoughts and decision making throughout the entirety of the book. Which makes it very hypocritical for me to then say I at times felt
very frustrated by her insecurities when it was so painfully obvious that Oak was, at the very least, genuinely fond of her. If not in love with her. Which he obviously was because this is a romance duology, but I can forgive Wren for not being genre savvy.

this book was a bit slow for me at the beginning, but the ending SO made up for it. I did indeed audibly gasp, and Wren has definitely become my favorite Holly Black character (alongside Jude of course).

It was fine but seemed to drag for me. It took me so long to read because I just wasn’t in it. And I fully intended not to read the second one after this but the ending is crazy so now I’m not sure

It was great read! I felt really bad for Ren and eveything she had gone through as a kid. And Oak is very much a casinova in this book. Always knows rhe right words to say to charm people. It felt a little episodic with all the places they went to but I understood the journey. Can’t wait to keep reading to the next book!

Like the other books Holly Black has written she doesn't shy away from the darkness in her protagonist, in it is the point of her writing.

This does not mean she does not make her characters grow, she does. But in choosing to make them grow into dark, complicated, sometimes even downright cruel and hateful creatures, she manages to challenge the way we think of growth.

Her plot twists are well built, and her clues are woven in from the beginning while managing to make sure it still feels satisfying and surprising in the way you get joy at connecting pieces you knew all along so seamlessly that you feel as if you were aware of the truth all along.

The stolen heir is a great start to a new series in an already well loved and well written world.

I don't think "The Stolen Heir" duology will beat "The Folk of the Air" trilogy for me, but damn did I devour this book in 5 days. <3 I wasn't quite sure how I would feel about grown up Oak, but I loved the character direction and exploring the particular difficulties he would have had to face (and how different those were from what Jude and Taryn endured in their time). I also loved Wren. <3 I definitely plan to reread this series and highly recommend!
