I enjoyed this book! I didn’t realize that it was the first in a series, so I’m unsure if I’ll continue with the rest. I did pause on reading it for a while after the MMC’s main motivation (his family back in his homeland) was revealed to already be dead. This reveal came pretty late in the book so I felt a little disappointed that he spent sooo much time suffering as a gladiator. With that said, it was satisfying that the main (and minor) villains were all taken care of (killed!) before the book’s end. That spares us from having to deal with their insanity any more than necessary. The “spice” was fine! As of completion, I’m not sure that it was integral to the plot, but it was fine all the same.

He leído por ahí que este libro era aburrido. No sé si han leído el mismo que yo. Las peleas y la acción descritas me han parecido muy originales y entretenidos. La trama política, aunque no demasiado intrincada, sigue estando bien escrita y llevada. El romance al principio no me convencía, pero realmente no ha sido la parte principal de la trama y ha conseguido que la pareja me gustase. Le pongo 4 estrellas porque es verdad que ningún personaje se me ha marcado en el corazón, pero creo que no por falta de calidad, simplemente como situación personal. Como veo que pone primer libro, supongo que habrá más. Y yo los leeré. Doy como sugerencia que se centre en la hermana, quiero saber más de esta pareja secundaria.

I really wanted to read this book and for the most part I was not disappointed. This is a incredibly epic action adventure for the most part, however, in the final quarter of the book a change takes place in the story and then many of the things that occurred just become pointless. This subversion took the story from interesting to mundane. That mundanity continued through the rest of the story and into the epilogue.

The book is decent in action scenes but lacking in consistent story telling
