It was so mid and too long. Yet somehow the ending was rushed?

Overall it was ok, but the character building was limited.

The end was rushed and there are definitely questions unanswered...

I had such high hopes with the idea and it just fell apart. This book would have benefited by becoming a duology so you would have time to fall in love with the characters and be more descriptive with the fight scenes. Was just very lacking in almost everything

This started off SO WELL. I kept waiting for some explanation and description of the world because it seemed so cool. So many different magical beings with a Roman Empire feel but that was all there was world-building wise. SO much potential but I feel 25% is ample amount of time to be able to describe what the setting is and some political background.

Another thing that really bugged me was that there weren’t any descriptions for the characters motivations. It didn’t let me connect to them. Yes, you’re fighting for your life and for your sister but like, why? Give me more backstory and context!!!!

The last straw was the male audio narrator. I swear I could hardly understand a word he was saying because he was making his voice so deep and low. It was PAINFUL not sexy

I really enjoyed this book. It reminded me a lot of the film, Gladiator, in that most of the story takes place inside a giant arena where fighting to the death is occurring. There is also so much political scheming, and fighting for power that does not belong to, nor should ever be held by, those who are scheming to get their hands on it.

3/4 of the way through, Cecy Robson ripped my heart out and threw it on the ground
