Little redundant and nothing really new. A one-pager would have been enough

This is not a detailed how-to guide to make your life better, and it's not really going to be telling you any new information. It DOES explain what Hygge is, and while a lot of the explanations might be pointing out the obvious, I believe they are things we don't consciously think about when designing and living our lives. The book explains the concept and what it entails, and it's only goal is to get the reader to become more mindful about what in their life helps them feel happiness. It's not necessarily a life-changing book, but the author's style makes it a comforting and lightly entertaining read. If you want a detailed, in-depth explanation or a how-to guide, this isn't for you. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy it. This book has definitely helped me become more mindful of my space (at home and in my social life) and the aspects that make me happy, and how I can mindfully incorporate those aspects from now on.

(Listened to the audiobook)

A lot of what you already know. To be danish is seemingly to spend time with friends, do stuff that makes your spaces warm and inviting, take time to enjoy sweets, and focus on being grateful for what you have. All the good things in life and clear why the Danes are so happy. Hell if that was my life I would be happy too.

However, what the book doesn’t delve nearly enough into is how difficult this is for a lot of people. With modern stressors and both financial security or the availability free time being so out of reach for many people I fear that this book is setting up people for failure. The Danes have the policies that give them this security while many places do not. Until the policy changes are addressed I fear that that this book may not be helpful to the average individual.

That being said if you have the financial security or free time then by all means live like a Dane! I have no doubt that it will bring a lot of joy and peace to many people and I hope that with a change in culture and policy more and more people will be able to enjoy Hygge!

3.5 stars.

I was gifted this book for Christmas and finally got around to reading it and I enjoyed learning more about Danish culture.

Very quick and informative read.
