I feel like this book was basically a description of my life, but with more candles. Perhaps my Scandinavian genes are really strong. Almost all of my non-working hours are filled by curling up under a blanket with a cat or two or three, a stack of books and a hot drink. Or, I'm curled up under a blanket with my husband watching TV. I eat entirely too much comfort food. My house is full of reading nooks. Cozy could definitely be a defining word of my life. I wear sweaters nearly every day. I adore fuzzy socks. So, I didn't exactly need this book. I was curious to read a little more on hygge since it's been such a buzzword though and this book was beautiful to read through and was a great affirmation for how I've built my life. The Danes are the happiest people on Earth, and I certainly feel like I'm happier than most people I know so they're definitely on to something.
I've been interested in hygge for a long while and received this little book for Christmas!
Finally getting to reading it, and while I understand many of the negative reviews of this book, it's exactly what I expected and was looking for.
Wiking walks the readers through what hygge is, how you can create it in your own life, the elements that are common with hygge, specific Danish traditions (with recipes and instructions for the food/drink/crafts), and even shows some of the data he's collected with the Happiness Research Institute.
In closing, Wiking quotes Benjamin Franklin which I think sums it up nicely:
"Happiness consists more in small conveniences or pleasures that occur every day, than in great pieces of good fortune that happen but seldom."

While furnishing my apartment, this book was really helpful in deciding on essential furniture, materials and little bits to create comfortable and cosy place to be; to focus more not on appearances, but on what I would actually enjoy.
I wasn't really impressed with it. Nothing that was written in it impressed me, but there were some funny traditions or expressions in it that made me gave it 2 stars. It is a book with a lot of pictures and a cute design, but that's about it.

An enjoyable audiobook experience.
Would definately love a physical copy as I feel it would be a good coffee table read to dip in and out of.
Would also make a wonderful gift for a reader in your life who loves all things cosy and homely.
