Personally, I never thought I would enjoy a comic book about Uncle Scrooge as much as I did. Thank you to Gengar for lending me his copy! I look forward to reading more!
Finally glad to have this under my belt. Masterful cartooning by Rosa and obvious the sight gags and physical comedy are top notch. It's a nice little all ages story that feels timeless in its execution. It feels like if there were ever to be a 2nd statue of liberty, it should be a statue of Scrooge. Or AI Scrooge. One or the other.
A masterpiece, exceeding any expectations that I had. Such a fascinating character study of a character that has been such a big part of me growing up. A wonderful adventure book, a heartbreaking tale and for me just pure bliss. I loved every second.

Con un pizzico di nostalgia per l'infanzia, le favole, le avventure, le storie sensazionali, questa Paperdinastia mi ha tenuto compagnia riportandomi alla mente tutto quanto, non mancando mai di imbastire insegnamenti di vita colmi anche di comicità, perché in fondo, ridere è bello!

Det är numera tradition att jag inleder året med ett seriealbum, så varför bryta ett vackert mönster? Den här gången blev det Farbror Joakims Liv, Don Rosas Scrooge McDuck-svit i en fin samlingsvolym med intressanta förord till varje del och extramaterial i form av borttagna delar och summerade referenser. Jag minns Don Rosas serier otroligt starkt från när jag var liten, jag måste ha stirrat på bilderna i evigheter för de sitter verkligen som klistrade på näthinnan. Däremot är själva historierna mer diffusa vilket får mig att misstänka att jag aldrig läste, eller förstod dem, ordentligt! Och tyvärr är historierna inte fullt så bra som jag ”minns” dem. De är lite mer klämkäcka, lite för hetsiga på ett sätt som jag inte förväntade mig. Av någon anledning minns jag dem som mer seriösa? Kanske för att de trots allt är det jämfört med vanliga Kalle Anka-historier, som jag aldrig fastnade för för som barn, just för att de var så fjantiga och aldrig speciellt allvarliga. Det flippade liksom alltid ur på ett eller annat sätt och det har aldrig varit min kopp te. Men: teckningarna är fantastiska, det finns massor att titta på och det händer saker utanför själva storyn i princip varje ruta. Det är en fröjd att läsa och att få återuppleva. Helst hade jag haft den på originalspråk, men man kan inte få allt. En bra start på året helt enkelt!

I've never read a Duck comic before. In fact, outside of "Mickey's Christmas Carol," I'm reasonably sure that I have had virtually no contact with the character Scrooge McDuck (and for the Ducks fans out there, yes, it was strange reading in the end-notes about how popular the Ducks, particularly Scrooge, are in other countries).
Now I'll definitely like to read more. Beyond being a quality read, Life & Times is a huge undertaking. Due to being busy and the sheer amount of material (8-10 panels per page seems pretty standard, and almost none of them are silent), it took me over a week to read this entire book, but every page made the effort completely worth the time.
Each chapter is a largely stand-alone story, detailing an event in Scrooge's life that turned him into the man that he would become in the later Carl Barks-written Scrooge classics, yet each chapter builds on the last, carving young Scrooge into the icon that he would become. Only one chapter really left me feeling flat, and a few laid on the gags a little bit too thicker than I would've liked for such an exciting, adventurous tale of coming of age and finding your fortune. But overall, almost every chapter hit the nail on the head, moving the story forward, giving the reader a few laughs, and showing off the clarify and beauty of Rosa's cartooning.
Highly recommended.
