Somehow I got out of middle school having never read this book. It always seemed like I book I should read, I just never did. For lots of girls this book is an important part of their adolescence, but I don't think it would have been for me. I was reading much different stuff in middle school, and this would not have appealed to me at all then. All the girl drama just wasn't a part of my world in middle school (luckily!), so this wouldn't have resonated with me. I'm glad I can now say I've finally read it, though.

Think some people were quite unimpressed that I spent the entirety of my best friend's 11th birthday party reading this cover to cover, but I just couldn't put it down. A lesson learned - I mustn't even look at the blurb of any suggested book during a social event. Too risky.

Oh my gosh, I’ve just been reading the best kids books lately and this is another to add to the collection. How I wish I had something this nuanced and introspective to guide me through my religious questions of young adult hood. I loved the writing. I loved the story. I loved the authors voice, and I loved the narrators unique perspective on everything going on in her life. I remember what it was like to grow up and this is so true to that.

My 5th grade self feels this book to the core. It’s a classic… a story we all read and all experienced. Growing up is so awkward.
