Another great installment in the Iron Druid series. Despite what the front of the book said, you don't REALLY need to read the novella, that comes before, but I am sure it would have helped. I just assumed that any gaps in the plot were because I'd forgotten some detail between the last book and this book.
I LOVED the beginning parts in Toronto! I thought they were hysterical. I can't wait for the next one, and in the meantime, perhaps I should go back to the beginning and reacquaint myself with the characters.

The shift in viewpoints in this book and the last (three characters, taking turns chapter by chapter). The increasing amount of environmental activism. And the way the story didn't so much develop as have a series of random things happen, that added up to exactly what was needed.
This is a big step down from the previous books, continuing a trend that started in book 7. Not as well put together. Moves the story line along , but not all that much fun to read. If book 1 had been written like this, I never would have gotten into the series.

Title: Staked
Series: The Iron Druid Chronicles #8
Author: Kevin Hearne
Genre: Urban Fantasy / Paranormal
Rating: 2.5/5
Review:
I am going to try and keep this review brief because I still have to write Book 9’s review.
While Hearne is a talented writer, it is obvious that he is not quite skilled enough to be writing so many storylines at once. The three story lines slow the pace to a crawl and the shift in povs and time can be a bit jarring at points. Pair this with so many off topic one lines and the entire Nigel bit (which was completely unnecessary and if left out wouldn’t change the story in the least) and it makes for a rough ride.
The plot has been a bit shallow throughout the series but in this book it seems completely on the surface with not surprises or twists.
I’m still enjoying the characters, humor, and magic system.

The dog thing is still creepy. But it's better than the previous book
This is truly an awesome series. The world and characters that Kevin Hearne has created is magnificent. The emotions that I feel while reading this particular book is everything from happy to sad to angry to laugh out loud funny. There were multiple goosebump moments. Atticus is a wonderful protagonist that is by no means perfect. As well as Owen, who is by far my favorite character. He is quite possible my favorite character from any book I've ever read. And I love everyone in between. Even Leif. I can't help it :)
This was the first book in the series that I had to wait for. I plowed through the first seven books and eagerly anticipated this one. The reason I say this is because it took me a couple of chapters to get into the story and world again, but it didn't take long before I was hooked all over again and could not put it down. A very satisfying ending, and I now wait with baited breath for the next installment.

As the last book in the series, besides some short stories, I was trying to enjoy the book slowly. Despite the effort I devoured it in less than 24 hours. Very nice ending to the series and yet I want more.
I didn't love the multiple viewpoints and multiple story lines. Not my favourite of the series.
