Muchas de las historias fueron lentas o demasiado melancólicas y estuve a punto de darme por vencida con el libro pero me alegra no haberlo hecho porque las últimas historias tienen algo especial que hizo que valiera la pena leer las otras.
I recently went through the archived likes on my tumblr page. Over 2,000 posts that have been sitting online mostly undisturbed for five years or so. About half way through the list (2014, maybe) I saw a quote, "They were all in their early thirties. An age at which it is sometimes hard to admit that what you are living is your life."
This is the first collection of stories by Alice Munro I have read. I checked out a hard cover edition from the library of the school I work at and read roughly one story a day, until inclement weather provided me with a much extended weekend.
The stories reminded me of a bit of Joy Williams short stories. The lack of affectation, the often rural settings, the broad range of ages represented in the characters. The frequent occurrence of house guests and/or divorce at the cores of stories. I'm not surprised I enjoyed the entire collection but a handful of the stories were emotionally striking and brilliantly written. Striking in both affect and execution. "Accident," "Labor Day Dinner, ""Hard-Luck Stories," and "The Moons of Jupiter." Highly recommended.

The woman is incredible...Mistress of Sad Truths. She changed my mind about short stories and I will eventually read every one of her many books. My favorites from this collection were "Bardon Bus" and "The Accident."

I read this because I needed a guaranteed-good read, and Munro never disappoints. 'The Turkey Season' is a classic Munro story. The two-part 'Chaddeleys and Flemings' that opens the collection is also a highlight.
Ideal para ir lento y disfrutar. No todas las historias atrapan con fuerza, pero la narrativa de cada una es un viaje delicado que se aprecia, pues hacen de los recuerdos ajenos mundos antojables.
I really related to a lot of these stories. Maybe because Munro was about the age I am now when she wrote them. Scrumptious writing.
