Epic fantasy with a great deal of imagination. Slow-burn storytelling with well-established characters and a detailed fantasy world. Despite its well-defined system of magic, enough of the lore is left mysterious to appeal to a sense of wonder. Suffers from some plain writing in places but uses structure to keep the reader's attention. There is quite a lot of lore to digest which will hopefully pay off as the story continues in the subsequent books in the series.

What an amazing read. I enjoyed this book from start to finish. I cannot wait for the next books in series.

I've read the Kindle version of this one and the next. I'll start by saying that I'm a big fan of Brandon Sanderson. I first started reading his work back during the Mistborn trilogy. He is an expert at developing multifaceted characters and complex magic systems. The Way of Kings did not disappoint me. Each of the main character's story arcs is compelling. Without getting into spoilers, let's just say that if you've liked Brandon Sanderson's other works and enjoy a fast-paced epic adventure, this book is for you.

20/10 STARS. This brick consumed my waking hours. So intimidating at first but I LOVED following these characters. I thought about them as if they were real people I just hadn't seen in awhile. Wondered how they were doing when I was sitting at my desk working. I have so many big feelings about this book. Kaladin. My darling boy. Kaladin kept reminding me that when times are hard, we make the choice to stand and try again and oh my god this was so important. Kaladin will live with me forever. Planning my next tattoo because of this book. I have so many feelings OH MY GOD go read it. You don't need me to tell you that but if you do PLEASE GO READ HER. Soooo good. Brandon you did your big one with this. Already purchased Words of Radiance, but taking a mental health break before starting her.

How does nothing happen in almost 400 pages. Horse girths don’t work like that. This book doesn’t need to be this long. He is not a good author.
