I am in love with these Pendergast novels. I started on #3 but have back-tracked to read #1 and now #2 in the series. So much fun to have on a chilly fall day! Now - to pick up where I left off - #6!

I don’t think I’ve ever been even a little scared reading a book until this one. Actually had some scary stuff in it. Great sequel to the first one which was “Bussin” (read review of Relic).

While this was a really good book, it fell short of the first one.
Admittedly, the class riots and marches, and fights against"the man"/ the police may have been bad timing for a read in 2021.
It was more of a chore to get through.
I don't think that was the books fault.
It still had great solid storytelling and intrigued me enough for that "what happens next?" And staying up late and reading.

Diving in the Cloaca (solid shit), the fascinating world below NYC, Pendergast masquerading as a mole-man Whitey- classic!

I ended up very much enjoying this! Minus one star for
Spoilerhaving a predictable (IMO) ending
and the gross "heavy breasts" description in the beginning, but truly a fun page-turner worth your time if you're into this genre.

Fantastic.

A good follow up to The Relic. Preston and Child weave an interesting story about crime, drugs, and the "mole people" who live beneath New York City. After the NYPD discover two bodies in the Hudson River, Lt. D'Agosta, Margo Green, and Special Agent Pendergast investigate a string of gruesome murders that mirror the Mbwun museum killings. Meanwhile, NYC's well-to-do citizens and professionals march on the City, trying to take back their city.

I enjoyed this book and The Relic. However, I felt that the later books of theirs that I read (Two Graves and White Fire) were more compelling.

Interesting sequel to Relic.
