Could not get into plot. I had such high hopes for this book but in the end it fell flat

All I can say is D A M N.
Nick Medina is one to watch out for. Hopeful we can see an adaptation of one of his novels soon.
6 stars if I could!

hmm i was really into louie's storyline and i thought the infusion of folklore was excellent. noemi's storyline was less engaging for me but the horror elements in louie's part was what i was most drawn to. i don't think this was as strong for me as medina's debut, and the dual pov and dual timelines was where i struggled—the imagery in this was great, and even tho i didn't love the pacing, i think the core mystery of it all was interesting. still, i don't think this book ever really found its groove.
the audiobook didn't super work for me. i know i really enjoyed gary farmer's work on the round house, but his cadence here made it really hard to get into the book, despite the fact that i prefered louie's pov. erin tripp did a wonderful job with noemi, and i think it made farmer's narrative choices feel much more stark.
